How to treat and protect a concrete floor ?

Concrete treatment is a crucial step to ensure its durability and appearance. Whether you want to sand, color, or protect your concrete floor, there are specific methods to follow for an impeccable result. This article guides you through the different steps of concrete treatment, optimizing both the performance and aesthetics of your floor.

Sanding concrete

Concrete sanding is divided into two techniques: with metal tools and resin pads.

Sanding with metal tools

Start by assessing the hardness of the concrete, as this will determine the type of tool to use. Follow these steps:

  1. Use the Falkor 5S metal bond (grit 30 or 60) for initial sanding, depending on the condition of your floor. This sanding can be done dry or wet.
  2. Once this step is complete, clean the floor and use the Falkor 5S grit 120 to refine the surface.

There are different variants of the Falkor 5S to suit the nature of the concrete:

Sanding with resin pads

After sanding with metal tools, continue with resin pads to further refine the floor:

  1. Use the Jumpy Green 3 on a wet floor to remove scratches left by the metal tool.
  2. Proceed with Jumpy Green 4 and 5, still on a wet floor, and clean the surface.

Coloring concrete

If you wish to add a touch of color to your concrete, opt for Concrete Color Dye by Hyper Grinder. This product is available in 12 shades and can be applied as follows:

  1. Dilute the Concrete Color Dye with 4 liters of acetone.
  2. Apply evenly for a colorful and personalized finish to your concrete floor.

Hardening concrete

To harden the concrete and make it more resistant:

  1. Use the Jumpy Green 6 on a wet floor.
  2. Apply Giordamineral, a hydrophobic mineralizer. This step is essential to strengthen the structure of the concrete and improve its durability.

Mechanical polishing

Mechanical polishing gives the concrete a smooth and shiny finish:

  1. After hardening, continue wet sanding with Jumpy Green 7 and 8.
  2. Clean the floor with Giordasol for an impeccable finish.

Protective treatment

The final step in concrete treatment is applying a protective product to extend the life of your floor and maintain its shine. Follow these steps:

  1. Apply Giordex Béton with an applicator for a water- and oil-repellent treatment, ideal for protecting against water and oil stains.
  2. For a shiny finish, spray Concrete Guard Lithium and polish with a high-speed polisher equipped with a white pad. Use a microfiber pad to evenly distribute the product.

A well-treated concrete floor is not only aesthetic but also durable. Sanding, coloring, hardening, and protection are key steps to achieving a high-quality concrete floor. By following this method, you ensure your floor a long lifespan while preserving its impeccable appearance.
